Swine Flu Alert in Uganda:
There is an outbreak of this flu in some parts of Uganda. The virus spreads so fast and hence every one should be on the alert and take precautions. Symptoms include; Loss of appetite, fever, body weakness and pains, sore throat, cough, severe pneumonia. In some cases diarrhea, vomiting and death.

To prevent its spread, avoid close contact with sick people, cover your mouth and nose when caring for the sick person with a clean piece of cloth and through it in the dust bin after use, confine the person a separate room, wash your hands with soap/detergent and water after contact with such people. Do not eat un ready meat.

Launch of Farmers Friend Project

Monday, June 29th 2009 marks the official launch of Google SMS, a farmers friend mobile phone application that aims at delivering agricultural information to the Ugandan population, including the poor and disadvantaged communities.

This application has been made possible through a team: Google (provides human and technology resources towards the development of the application solutions), Google.org (assesses the potential for mobile applications to provide socially relevant information for rural enterprises and households in East Africa), Grameen Foundation (develops holistic business solutions that create linkages between its corporate partners and NGOs, microfinance organizations and poor entrepreneurs, and the poor and local and global markets), MTN Uganda (telecom operator that provides the communications infrastructure as well as local marketing support, and leverages its unparalleled distribution network to ensure rural users are aware of and able to benefit from the applications) and BROSDI (an NGO in Uganda that aims at empowering the civil society through knowledge sharing and information management using ICT as a medium sothat they can improve their livelihoods. In the farmers friend application, they provide agricultural local content collected by farmers from the CELAC District Farmers Network; for a period of 4 years sofar.)
