Swine Flu Alert in Uganda:
There is an outbreak of this flu in some parts of Uganda. The virus spreads so fast and hence every one should be on the alert and take precautions. Symptoms include; Loss of appetite, fever, body weakness and pains, sore throat, cough, severe pneumonia. In some cases diarrhea, vomiting and death.

To prevent its spread, avoid close contact with sick people, cover your mouth and nose when caring for the sick person with a clean piece of cloth and through it in the dust bin after use, confine the person a separate room, wash your hands with soap/detergent and water after contact with such people. Do not eat un ready meat.

Seminars on Cheese-making and Cheese-aging

CoRFiLaC, Consorzio di Ricerca sulla Filiera Lattiero Casearia, is a dairy consortium which, from its beginning, has conducted studies on historical cheeses, especially on the Sicilian ones, on the values and on the culture of rural communities, in order to develop strategies exalting Man and his values at the centre of the rural civilization, strengthening the role of tradition, biodiversity and environment in the civil society.

CoRFiLaC has made the strategic political decision to open a well defined area of work with emerging countries through the iPWO, international Professional women Opportunity Project.

The strategic philosophy of iPWO is to create a “place” of thought, know-how, cultural exchange, as well as a place of interaction for the technical and scientific aspects, at the CoRFiLaC facility, which should allow women of developing countries to have a permanent center of reference supporting their growth and needs.

The topics where CoRFiLaC may work intensively are Animal Production Systems and Dairy Products, with special emphasis on traditional processes taking advantage of our experience.

In the developing countries, including the Mediterranean region, almost all the dairy products are household operations using traditional preparation systems, where women have a crucial and irreplaceable role. Livestock farming, in general, and milk and milk products, in particular, play an important socio-economic role.

The seminars will have a formative value for the women being part of the Project, and, in addition, it will represent an opportunity for the promotion of Sicilian territory, historical cheeses and the techniques utilised for their production. The presence of world-famous cheese-makers, experts of Animal Production and Animal Nutrition, will give a value added to the event. These experts will come mainly from Africa, Middle East and India and, therefore, they have a deep knowledge of local needs of these countries.
